The Best Toothache Remedy

I hope you never need this remedy, but just in case you do, here it goes.

If you look up remedies for toothaches, most herb books say to chew on cloves. When I was on my knees in pain from a failing tooth, cloves just did not quite cut it.

I have several teeth that are compromised. I grew up eating lucky charms, pop tarts and frosted flakes for breakfast. By the time I was 10 years old, I had a mouth full of cavities. Every molar in my mouth was filled with mercury fillings.

In my twenty’s I learned about eating healthy and ditched the cereals and all kinds of other processed foods that I had eaten throughout my childhood.

But you don’t get new teeth, the damage had been done. To this day I have trouble with my teeth and have to really take care of them.

Recently, one of my back molars failed. I woke up in the morning and could hardly get out of bed; my tooth ache was so bad! Later, when looking at the x-ray of the tooth, you could see that there was hardly any tooth left; it was mostly one giant filling! My poor tooth, it had been drilled out of my head before I was even a teenager.

I crawled downstairs and stuffed some cloves in my mouth; I waited awhile and was still in pain. My husband said he would go to the store and get me some over the counter pain medication, because I couldn’t get in to see the dentist until the following day.

I rarely take any kind of medications so when I agreed that he should go pick me up something from the pharmacy, that gives you an idea of just how desperate I was.

While he was gone, ginger popped into my mind. I started thinking about the strong anti-inflammatory action of ginger and decided to just put a quarter sized piece of fresh ginger in my mouth. I bit into the fresh ginger root and stuffed it into the area of the throbbing tooth.

Within two minutes, my pain was gone. Not just less, but GONE!

The cloves had reduced my pain, but not gotten rid of it. The ginger took it away completely. Awesome.

I never took the pain pills Michael brought home, but just replaced the fresh ginger root every couple of hours and it kept me pain free for the next 24 hours until I could get into the dentist.

Thank you ginger!

Hello I’m Kami, Welcome to Living Awareness!

I believe every family needs to have someone on board with a working knowledge of natural remedies if you want to take care of your family’s health for real.

When I was growing up, natural remedies was not a mainstream concept like it is now, in fact, you are going to be surprised that I never even heard the word natural remedy until I moved out of the house!

In my early 20’s I met someone by chance that told me about holistic health and herbal medicine. I wondered why nobody had talked to me about it before and had a voracious appetite to learn everything I could.

Now, 30 years later I've helped thousands of people demystify the world of herbal medicine and become empowered in using herbal self-care in their home to prevent illness, take care of common ailments and protect their health naturally.

For 20 years I've had a clinical herbal practice connecting people with plants and their wellness. I've developed and taught herbal curriculum for UCSF School of Nursing and the Integral Health Master’s Degree Program at the California Institute of Integral Studies.

Stick with me! You’ll learn awesome herbal self-care, get inspired to be more self-sufficient in your health care and nourish a deep love for the herbs and how to use them, knowing you are doing the very best you can to care for your wellness.

We have been using Ginger almost exclusively in tea with various other herbs and love it but this morning my wife woke up with a slight toothache and wa-la I saw your post. Fifteen minutes later my wife was all smiles the pain gone. Granted it was not the kind of pain that puts you in tears but it did the job. I will post a link to your site on my Blog. Thank you so much for one more reason to grow my own Ginger.

Wow. This really works. I am trying it right now. Oregano oil also works but it tends to burn the skin off your lips.

Stopped off at a health food store and for some unknown reason bought a fresh piece of garlic thinking I could boil it and rinse my mouth where I had the most horrific pain in my back molar. Don’t know where I goth the idea-it just “popped into my head.” Just came home and put the question into Google and got this amazing response. Right now I have a quarter size piece of ginger in my mouth and the PAIN IS GONE…..WOW! Thanks so much for this amazing tip.
